BCS welcomes funding announcement for National Centre for Computing Education

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT has welcomed the announcement from the Department for Education that BCS, the Raspberry Pi Foundation and STEM Learning have been successful in their bid, as a consortium, to set up the National Centre for Computing Education.

This level of investment is unprecedented anywhere in the world for teacher training in the field of computing and computer science. It is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the way that computer science is taught.

BCS Group CEO, Paul Fletcher said: “The subject of computer science was only introduced four years ago and is still new for schools. That’s why it’s important to build on the energy and enthusiasm of the many teachers who are already committed to the success of this subject.

“We are delighted to form part of the consortium and to continue to work with the community of computer science teachers.

“These are really exciting times for us, and the consortium, which couldn’t have come about without a huge amount of time and effort by everyone involved, so my personal thanks go to them all.”
