The Big Lottery Fund yesterday announced four new appointments. These include three newly-created roles on the Fund’s new service design and digital teams and a new Head of Legal - Eleanor Boddington – who has joined the Fund from the Children’s Investment Fund.

Cassie Robinson will be the Fund’s new Head of Digital Grant Making. She will head up a new £15 million Digital Fund to support the charity and voluntary sector. The launch of this fund will be critical in helping the Fund achieve its strategic aim of helping to build digital capability in charities and community organisations.

The Digital Fund will be part of the Fund’s existing UK Portfolio. Cassie arrives from Doteveryone - a think tank that champions responsible technology for the good of everyone in society - where she led the Digital Society strand of work, exploring how technology is changing society and showing what technology that considers its social impact can look like.

Stuart Hollands and Angela Murray have joined the Big Lottery Fund as part of the newly formed service design team. They will be responsible for helping the Big Lottery Fund implement a service design approach to developing funding programmes and working with charity and community organisations.

Service design looks to include users of a service in its design from the outset. This is an important step in community empowerment, ensuring that lived experience plays a greater role in service design, and in realising the Fund’s People in the Lead strategy.

Stuart Hollands was previously at the Ministry of Justice where he worked across various agencies and roles over 17 years. For the last four years, Stuart was managing teams delivering services in line with the Government Digital Service standards, and brings with him a wealth of service design experience. Stuart will be responsible for the introduction of the Big Lottery Fund’s new grant management system.

Angela Murray joined the Fund from Laureus Sport for Good where she was Head of Programmes. Angela was responsible for designing and implementing multiple programmes as well as introducing a new Grant Management system to the organisation. She has previous experience with Comic Relief, The Toybox Charity and The Consortium for Street Children and will be bringing her experience to bear on designing and implementing core funding products across the Fund.

Eleanor Boddington brings over 20 years of experience in the charity sector. She was most recently at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), where she worked as General Counsel and Company Secretary, following 16 years as Senior Legal Counsel at the Wellcome Trust. She has also served as trustee of Royal Museums Greenwich for eight years.

The Big Lottery Fund distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes. Last year it awarded over half a billion pounds (£508.5 million) and supported over 11,000 projects across the UK for health, education, environment and charitable purposes.
