GCS Accelerate, the digital and culture transformation programme at the forefront of making digital integral to the work of government communicators, launches close to 500 places for GCS members.

Launched last year by Alex Aiken, Executive Director for Government Communications, our ambitious training programme, GCS Accelerate, aims to transform the UK Government Communication Service into the most digitally advanced in the world. Digital development is no longer a trend but a driving force of change across all communications specialisms.

GCS Accelerate is delivered through two strands: the Learning Hubs – specialist cross-government groups focusing on paid campaigns, media, content and publishing, strat comms/I&E, external affairs and internal comms – and the Executive Leadership, which focuses on providing Directors of Communications the leadership tools and industry knowledge to implement transformation.

With the support of our Learning Hubs, we have successfully developed and piloted the first cycle of the Essential level training. Through June and July, training was offered to 90 GCS members and we are ramping this up significantly.

September and October will see the next rollout of our Essential level training, this time with close to 500 places being made available for GCS members, allowing us to offer industry-leading development to even more members of the profession. 

With training that focuses on topics ranging from countering misinformation to introduction to the media marketing ecosystem and engaging external stakeholders using digital tools – GCS Accelerate aims to empower, equip and engage us in driving digital transformation within our profession. 

A true cross-government effort is required to make our programme a success and build the much-needed digital capability. By participating in the programme you will be making a real and rewarding contribution to your personal development and to that of your department and the entire government.
