Brathay Apprentice Challenge 2016 underway
The search for the apprentice team of the year is now underway as apprentices from across the country have entered the Brathay Apprentice Challenge.
Now in its fifth year, the Brathay Apprentice Challenge 2016 will see more than 80 teams of 9 apprentices undertake a series of exciting and interactive work-related challenges to develop new skills. The activities will also showcase their employer by engaging with young people and businesses to promote the benefits of apprenticeships.
Large employers that have entered include HSBC, GlaxoSmithKline, Greene King plc and Microsoft UK. They will be up against small and medium sized employers including, Eden Project, Magna Science and Adventure Centre and Kings Security Systems Ltd, all hoping to be crowned the apprentice team of the year 2016.
Training providers are also represented in the Challenge with teams of apprentices training with organisations including, Appris Charity Ltd, Apprenticeship Norfolk Network and Derwent Training Association.
Teams are currently taking part in the Regional Heats, which will see them deliver a community project and activities that raise the profile of the team, their employer and apprenticeships.
Eight National Finalists will be announced on 18th May 2016 at the House of Commons. The National Finals consist of further awareness raising activity with the Challenge culminating in a Logistical and Teambuilding Finale at Brathay Trust’s Windermere headquarters from 13th to 16th June 2016. The 2016 apprentice team of the year will be announced on 15th June 2016.
Skills Minister Nick Boles said:
This is a great opportunity for those taking part to showcase the life-changing skills they have gained through an apprenticeship. The employers involved, large and small, know the value apprentices bring to their businesses.
Apprenticeships give our young people the vital skills they need to succeed. That’s why we are committed to creating three million apprenticeships by 2020
