CBI Scotland reacts to publication of Scottish Government official response to AGER report

CBI Scotland yesterday reacted to publication of Scottish Government official response to AGER report.

Tracy Black, CBI Scotland Director, yesterday said:

“There is much to welcome in the Scottish Government’s response, however it’s critical that business sees delivery in the next couple of months. Jobs and firms are on the line now, and real urgency is needed to spur a recovery that turns around Scotland’s economic fortunes.

“Focussing on immediate priorities will provide some reassurance for business, and specific recommendations like support for youth employment, including the Scottish Jobs Guarantee, greater PACE support and the Transition Training Fund to support individuals facing redundancy and unemployment, will be particularly important in the coming months.

“Cutting red tape, especially in the burdensome planning process, will be supported by businesses, allowing for greater agility, which could provide a real stimulus for much needed private investment.

“At this critical moment, it’s imperative for the Scottish Government be open to and work closely with the business community as we emerge from this crisis. The offer of practical engagement focused on delivery is welcome and should have the clear aim of avoiding scarring from long-term unemployment in communities across Scotland.”
