Communication to Industry – Update on DEFNET

An update from the Ministry of Defence on the future of industry access to the Defence Intranet (DEFNET).

Following the MOD's previous communication to industry in February, the DEFNET project team would like to provide an update on the status of the DEFNET Optimisation project which will be delivering access to DEFNET for our Industry Partners due to the closure of the legacy Defence Intranet.

The project team is currently focused on developing the security case for sign-off with the accreditor. In conjunction with this, the processes surrounding the license provisioning are being matured subject to review with the Security Accreditor.

Direct engagement has been a key activity that the project team have been focusing on to ensure that Industry Partners are aligned to the solution that is being delivered and ensuring that the technical elements of the solution have been worked through. As per previous communications, our Industry Partners will be provided with access to DEFNET by using the Microsoft Business to Business (B2B) capability. The B2B capability will enable secure sharing with our Industry Partners.

The project team will be engaging with Industry Partners over the coming weeks to brief on the key activities that will be required prior to go-live. The project team will need the support of our Industry Partners to ensure completion of these activities in readiness of the Alpha phase which will be running in September.

If you have any concerns or questions, you can contact the ISS Customer Services Industry team on the following email:

Regular communications will continue to be distributed as the project progresses to ensure that all users and stakeholders are aware of the progress and next steps.
