Communications Infrastructure Council: Vote for your new Chair

techUK would like to invite members of the Communications Infrastructure Programme to vote for the new Chair of the Council.

techUK is holding an election for a new Chair of the Communications Infrastructure Council and would like to invite members of the Communications Infrastructure Programme to vote. We currently have 2 nominees who have put themselves forward for the position of Chair.

Please make sure you read the nominee biographies below before casting your vote and please note voting is limited to one representative per company. Should there be multiple votes from the same company, we will only take the first vote.

BIOGRAPHY 1 – ANDREW CONWAY, BAI COMMUNICATIONS

Andrew is the Director of Engineering at BAI Communications in London.  BAI are a provider of high-quality communications infrastructure, helping transport authorities, governments and mobile operators boost productivity and enhance experience for travelling customers.

An industry expert in next generation wireless networks. Through his design leadership, Andy makes the complex simple.
With a reputation for creating deep relationships between clients, operators and suppliers, he has developed strategies that deliver enhanced customer experience. He describes his role as bringing the possibility of innovative technology to life, every day, for everyone.

Prior to BAI, Andy spent eight years at O2, leading radio network design, delivering projects such as the Olympics network solution, network sharing and 4G launch. Andrew has also had senior roles at Nokia and Cable & Wireless.

What I can bring to the role

  • Understanding of the Mobile Network Operator ecosystem – business models and how they operate
  • Technology drivers – my experience in both fixed and mobile environments, leveraging my previous vendor background
  • International dimension – bringing experience from other markets that BAI Communications operate in globally
  • Neutral Host – a new model in network infrastructure sharing and collaboration.

Digital infrastructure is at the heart of the economy.  Much has been done in recent times with the launch of 5G and the accelerated plans for fibre. However, 2020 is a pivotal year as the UK needs to accelerate activities to ensure its continued prosperity.

I would be honoured to represent my company and techUK as Chair of the Communications Infrastructure Council.

BIOGRAPHY 2 – PETER COUCH, JOINT RADIO COMPANY

Dr Peter D Couch is Chief Executive Officer at Joint Radio Company working with the Energy Utilities to establish the optimum regulatory regime to facilitate the Smart Grid future.

An innovative, highly driven strategic thinker with 19 years’ experience of enhancing enterprise value in regulated businesses within the Energy, Technology, Media and Telecommunications sectors and a strong background in automotive and aerospace. Highly regarded for driving efficiencies using a right first time, direct approach balanced with adaptable influencing skills. Effectively uses a strong industry network to develop strategic alliances and through effective partnering has secured industry wide commercial objectives in the UK and Internationally, underpinning long term contracted income of circa £5bn.

At JRC Peter is responsible for all Management and Operational activities supporting the Operational Telecommunications needs of the UK Energy Utilities and works closely with key stakeholders in BEIS, Ofgem, DCMS and Ofcom to ensure that the UK Energy sector has the appropriate spectrum rights to facilitate 'Smart Grid' developments. He has led a strategic review of JRC's organisational capability and the long-term needs of its Members resulting in the formulation and implementation of a resource and operational Transition Plan. In addition, he has established broad Member engagement and with it delivered enhanced consultancy services in support of JRC’s Members’ needs.

Having worked extensively across the Communications Infrastructure Verticals of Mobile Satellite, Terrestrial Broadcast, Terrestrial Mobile and Critical Operational Communications – Peter has a broad understanding of the regulatory context and the spectrum challenges that end users / enterprises are subject to. To this end as Chair of the Communications Infrastructure Council he is keen to work with Industry and Government Stakeholders to ensure that UK PLC has sufficiently robust and resilient Communications System Capability to support the developing needs of Industry and Enterprise.

The Communications Infrastructure Council is open to any member with an interest in fixed-line and wireless telecommunications infrastructure, that provides the collective industry voice on improving and developing the digital infrastructure market and on Government policy and regulatory issues that affect it.
