Complaints an MPS officer leaked information to the media are not upheld

An Independent Police complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation into complaints a Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) detective chief inspector leaked information to the media has concluded.

Two separate complaints alleging DCI Paul Settle disclosed personal and sensitive information to the media were referred to the IPCC by the MPS. Neither complaint was upheld by the investigator following a thorough investigation.

The investigation began after a member of the public complained that DCI Settle had released their personal details, and those of others they had referred to during an MPS investigation, to members of the media.

Some months later, a second complainant alleged DCI Settle also improperly disclosed sensitive and personal details they had given to him to members of the media.

The two separate complaints were made in September and December 2015 and were looked at in a single independent investigation.

During the course of the investigation, statements were obtained from the complainants, DCI Settle, and a number of journalists named by the complainants as having received information from him. The investigation concluded in May 2017.
