‘Costly and time-consuming duplication’ in Brexit preparations

Committee Chair Meg Hillier MP yesterday commented on the National Audit Office report on the Civil Contingencies Secretariat’s preparations for a no-deal Brexit.

Chair's comments

“The NAO’s report on contingency preparations for no-deal Brexit underlines the scale of the challenge Government faces, including preparing to respond to issues at the border, with the transport system and with food and health supplies.

“Most of these would be major projects in their own right, yet Government departments have been working on these plans alongside plans for an exit with a deal – a costly and time-consuming duplication of effort."
