Cultural treasures worth £60 million for the nation
In the past year the government’s Cultural Gifts and Acceptance in Lieu schemes have accepted 46 cases worth £58.6 million for the nation, as highlighted in our annual report published yesterday.

In a record-breaking year for the schemes, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, prints, furniture, archives, manuscripts – and even a 17th-century manor house – worth nearly £60 million have been accepted for the nation.
They have been allocated to public institutions across the UK, such as the British Museum, National Museum Wales, Fitzwilliam, Ashmolean and New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, as well as a number of first time allocatees, including the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew and the Staffordshire Archive Service, where they are available for everyone to engage with and enjoy.

The Acceptance in Lieu and Cultural Gifts Schemes [are] two hugely important ways for exceptional works of art, objects, manuscripts and archives to enter public collections throughout the country – making a valuable contribution to local communities and enjoyed by millions.
