DCMS Committee Chair Julian Knight comments on Unboxed festival visitor numbers
DCMS Committee Chair Julian Knight recently (01 September 2022) commented on Unboxed festival visitor numbers.
Chair of the DCMS Committee Julian Knight MP recently said:
“We sounded the alarm months ago that a project with such a vague vision and nebulous name seemed doomed to failure. Despite reassurances from organisers that everything would be alright on the night, the scant interest shown by the public is a damning indictment of the festival from start to finish. With Unboxed costing four times the celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, serious questions need to be answered about the aims and delivery of the project and how it has been allowed to squander such a vast sum of tax-payers’ money.”
The figures are included in a piece on Unboxed published by Politics Home, which reports visitor numbers for the festival of 238,000, compared with a ‘stretch target’ of 66 million.
The Committee previously criticised the delivery of Unboxed in its report in March on major cultural and sporting events.
