Dunstable RTI - Appeal for witnesses for IPCC investigation

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is appealing for witnesses to a road traffic incident in Bedfordshire on Wednesday 16 August, after a man sustained a broken leg in a collision involving his motorcycle, a police car and a third vehicle.

The incident occurred on the Dunstable Road, at the junction with Chalgrave Road, in Chalgrave near Toddington, as the police car was travelling on blue lights to attend a separate incident at around 1.10pm.

The IPCC was informed of the incident on Wednesday afternoon and deployed investigators to the scene and the post incident procedure.

Investigators are in the process of obtaining relevant evidence, including in-car data and witness statements, to help establish the sequence of events leading up to the collision.

Operations Manager Neil Orbell, who is overseeing the investigation, said:

“The motorcyclist sustained a broken leg in the collision, and we will carry out a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident.

“The incident happened in the middle of the day, and we are appealing for anybody who saw the collision or the events leading up to it to contact our investigators.”

The police car was a marked Vauxhall police car, the motorbike was a black Zontes 125cc and the third vehicle was a grey Vauxhall Zafira.

Investigators are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a vehicle which was travelling in front of the motorcycle just before the collision took place.

Witnesses are asked to contact the IPCC on 0800 151 0018 or DunstableRoad@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk(link sends e-mail).
