In May, the Economic and Social Research Council was a co-signatory for two submissions to the UK Government's Call for Views on the implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (the GDPR) in the UK.

ESRC has made the case for exemptions for research and to ensure that valuable work in the humanities and social sciences is appropriately recognised when the new framework comes into force in May 2018. 

• The joint ESRC/British Academy submission was developed with support from Dr David Erdos of the University of Cambridge's Law Faculty. 
• Along with 20 other UK organisations ESRC was co-signatory to a submission led by the Wellcome Trust (PDF).
