The ministerial Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce, of which techUK is a steering board member, sets out its report to Government.

The Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce (EVET) launched its report, Energising our Electric Vehicle Transition, to Government yesterday.

The report is the result of a collaboration that spans the tech, energy, automotive and infrastructure sectors – including many techUK members. It sets out 3 priority areas:

1. The urgency of developing standards and codes of practice to enable interoperability and the sharing of data within the Electric Vehicle sector and with the electricity system.
2. The need for effective local and national planning and coordination to enable efficient investment, mediating the balance between future-proofing and asset stranding.
3. The criticality of smart charging; underpinned by a resilient network and clear market signals, to reduce the cost of supplying millions of EVs.

These three areas underpin 21 proposals that have been made by the EVET which are grouped into 5 themes:

Director of techUK and EVET Steering Board member, Matt Evans said: 

“This report sets out realistic but essential proposals for supercharging our EV transition – Government must now take these forward with industry to ensure that EVs can play their full part in the wider transition to net-zero”.

Commenting on the theme of utilising and protecting data for better consumer outcomes he said, “A flexible grid, delivering smart charging to smart electric vehicles requires accessible data. Frameworks therefore need to be developed to facilitate the appropriate secure sharing of this data.”
