European Union Committee publishes its tenth international agreements report

The European Union Committee has published its tenth report on Brexit-related international agreements.

Background

This report considers two international agreements. which have been reported for information:

  • Economic Partnership Agreement between the CARIFORUM States, of the one part, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of the other part (CP 83)
  • Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Indonesia on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade in Timber Products into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (CP 87)

Both agreements are continuity agreements which seek to replicate existing agreements the UK is currently party to through its membership of the EU. The CARIFORUM Agreement is a development-focused agreement with a number of Caribbean states, while the UK/Indonesia agreement sets out arrangements to verify the legality of timber imported into the UK.
