FSA to hold Social Science events

We’re holding our annual Symposium of Social Science, as part of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Festival of Social Science.

This year events will be held in London, Cardiff and Belfast in November.

The events will offer an excellent opportunity for anyone in the social science community to hear about how social science directly informs real life policy making in a government context. As well as learning about the work and priorities of the FSA, and discussing ideas, you can network with experts from academia, industry and policy throughout the event. We’ll be showcasing the breadth of social science in the Agency, covering the latest research on flagship programmes such as Regulating our Future and dealing with food crime as well as discussing how we are applying innovative methodologies and behavioural change techniques.

At the FSA we make sure that the understanding of what people throughout the food chain think, feel and do informs our risk assessment and our risk management. We collect primary data as well as use secondary data sources using the methods of social scientific inquiry – rapid evidence assessments, literature and systematic reviews, surveys, controlled trials, case studies, observational research and analysis of administrative and survey data – to measure, describe, explain and predict and evaluate social and economic phenomena to policy makers.
