Follow the breadcrumbs to A Twisted Tale of Hansel and Gretel

New touring production will see young artists with learning disabilities take part in theatre across the Midlands.

Open Theatre Company, who will join our National Portfolio of organisations in 2018, will work with BecauseWeCanCanCan, a company of emerging artists with learning disabilities, to develop A Twisted Tale of Hansel and Gretel. The project will be toured to venues across the Midlands and is supported by more than £70,000 from the National Lottery, through the Grants for the Arts scheme.

The production will offer young learning disabled artists opportunities to showcase their talents to audiences and provide a platform for them to develop professional skills for future careers in theatrical arts.

BecauseWeCanCanCan will lead the production ensuring that the experiences of learning disabled artists are included throughout, from creation to performance. Metro Boulot Dodo, another National Portfolio organisation from 2018, and Birmingham Hippodrome will be providing skills, experience and artistic direction for the show.

Alongside the show, BecauseWeCanCanCan will work with local schools and colleges in Birmingham, Corby, Leicester and Wolverhampton to provide a series of creative workshops for children and young adults with learning disabilities.
