The IPCC is issuing a fresh appeal for witnesses one month after a car crash in Brighton which resulted in the death of 79-year-old David Ormesher.

Mr Ormesher, from Poole, Dorset, was struck by a police car at about 1am on Friday 25 August near the junction of Edward Street and Devonshire Place. Tragically he died at the scene.

IPCC investigators attended the scene and post incident procedures where police witnesses provided their first accounts.

Investigators have also undergone door to door enquiries in the area.

An inquest into Mr Ormesher’s death has been opened and adjourned.

IPCC Commission delegate Catherine Hall said: “The investigation is making good progress, but on this day, one month after the tragic death of Mr Ormesher, I am asking for anyone with information to contact us.

“It is important we establish the circumstances surrounding the crash and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything that could assist our investigators.

“Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this terrible incident and the IPCC will continue to work with the family of Mr Ormesher and Sussex Police throughout this investigation.”
