GMP officer arrested following allegations he abused his position

A police constable (PC) from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) was yesterday (Monday 18 February) arrested on suspicion of a number of offences following allegations that he abused his position for sexual purpose.

The officer, aged 32, was arrested by our investigatory team at an address in Tameside, Greater Manchester, and has been detained for questioning. A search of the officer’s home address is also being carried out.

The PC was arrested on suspicion of:

  • corrupt or other improper exercise of police powers and privileges
  • coercive and controlling behaviour in an intimate relationship
  • harassment
  • misconduct in public office
  • an offence contrary to the Data Protection Act

The arrest follows a recent referral from GMP and is not linked to any other ongoing investigation.
