Get Help to Retrain - National Retraining Scheme launches in Liverpool
Adults whose jobs could change due to advances in tech will get support to retrain and get on a path to a new career with the scheme's first service.
The National Retraining Scheme has begun its initial rollout in the Liverpool City Region with the launch of a new digital service, Get Help to Retrain. The launch of the first phase of the £100m scheme looks to help people gain new skills in the workplace and prepare them for the jobs of the future.
As technology transforms the nature of work, it's vital that the Government ensures the UK's workforce is ready for the opportunities and challenges this presents.
The scheme is led and overseen by the National Retraining Partnership – a unique partnership between Government, the CBI and the TUC – to ensure the collective voices of businesses and employees are heard.
techUK's Head of Policy, Vinous Ali, yesterday told the BBC:
"It is right that the government is starting small to ensure lessons are learnt, and adaptations are made along the way, but the ambition to scale so that this becomes a truly national retraining scheme cannot be lost,"
"Whilst the focus is on job displacement, the fact is no job is likely to remain untouched by the fourth Industrial Revolution, so we will all need to learn new skills.
"This means we need to be making significant investments in lifelong learning and helping people to navigate a pathway through this change."
