Gross misconduct hearing for two West Midlands Police officers

Two West Midlands Police officers will face a gross misconduct hearing in connection with the arrest of a man for suspected drug offences in Walsall on 28 June 2016.

We carried out two investigations, completed in July and November 2017, following a complaint that excessive force had been used during the arrest and subsequent allegations concerning submission of false statements about the incident.

We concluded that there was a case to answer for gross misconduct for Police Constables Neil Tong and Craig Elliot over the honesty of their accounts.

The force agreed and a gross misconduct hearing for the two officers will be held in public at West Midlands Police headquarters from Monday 22 October, led by an independently chaired panel.
