HMCPSI Inspection of SFO’s response to COVID-19: 16 March to 8 May 2020

The HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) conducted a review of the SFO’s immediate response to Covid-19. It can be accessed here.

Speaking about the HMCPSI review, Director of the Serious Fraud Office Lisa Osofsky said:

“I welcome this report which recognises the positive steps we have taken to progress our cases in spite of the restrictions necessitated during a challenging time. It is important now, more than ever, for the SFO to continue to investigate and prosecute serious economic crime with passion and focus.

“I am also pleased the Inspectorate complimented the good work we have done to keep staff updated and to promote well-being as an organisation. This demonstrates that the active steps we are taking in the wake of the Inspectorate’s reports last year are having a positive impact through stronger leadership and focus on our people and culture.

“I thank my colleagues who have worked so hard to ensure this success; I am keen for us to implement practices that show we continue to learn lessons from the entire experience. There is an ongoing commitment to improve working practices further by extending our IT capacity, making more use of video conferencing and providing staff who work remotely with peripheral IT equipment, where required.”
