Helping new government communicators settle into their roles

We have launched the GCS welcome pack to help new joiners across the civil service settle into their roles during this difficult time.

Members of the GCS design, plan and deliver world-class media work, public facing campaigns and stakeholder and internal communications. We partner closely with organisations in the public, private and third-party sectors in pursuit of the greatest impact. The work we do is rarely easy, constantly challenging, and always rewarding.

The pack is equipped with the tools, guidance and networks you need to continue the standard of excellence that has been set by over a century of government communications. This includes guidance on how to access courses, networking events and mentoring opportunities, as well as a new starter check-list to make sure you are ready for your first day. It brings together knowledge and best practice from over 40 government departments, 400 agencies and public bodies and all nations of the United Kingdom. By working together and welcoming and supporting new joiners, we will continue to deliver excellent work in support of the government by implementing the priorities of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet to build a stronger economy, a fairer society, a United Kingdom and a global Britain.

When done well, the contribution of communications to delivering government policies is profound. The GCS New Starter Pack will help you get ready to embark on the GCS journey and build the skills you need to make your mark.
