Huw McKee joins Socitm’s president’s team

Huw McKee, Head of IT and Digital Transformation at Conwy County Borough Council has been elected as vice president of digital leaders’ body Socitm. This follows a recent vacancy arising in the president’s team.

McKee is currently involved with Socitm Wales members and the Welsh Government in collaborative initiatives across the principality to deliver digital transformation benefits for local authorities and citizens.

On his election, McKee said: “The contribution from Socitm and its members to a dynamic digital environment for local public services and democracy has never been more important. The key challenge here is to transform places through a dynamic, digital economy enabled by modern, people-centred service designs. This requires strong, future focused and digitally aware leadership within our organisations, partners, businesses and communities to embrace new and totally different ways of collaborating and working.

I look forward to working with Socitm’s president’s team to build on the excellent work done to date by Socitm and previous presidents in influencing key stakeholders and in supporting and developing our digital leaders to ensure they receive the recognition they deserve.”

McKee is an active member of the Wales Socitm branch with over 30 years’ experience as an IT professional; operating for 20 years at CIO/director level across the UK. Prior to entering the public sector 10 years ago, he has operated globally with major blue-chip organisations and technology partners, including United Utilities where he was IT Director.

He takes over from Chris Riley (previously ICT Manager at Lancaster City Council and now working in the private sector) and joins a Nicola Graham (President), Sandra Taylor and Sam Smith (Vice Presidents) and Geoff Connell (Immediate Past President).
