IPCC investigation into fatal Haringey collision

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is appealing for witnesses following an incident in which a man died after he was in a collision with a police van in north London on Sunday 3 December.

Suleyman Yalcin, 44, and from Wood Green, died after the collision happened at around 6.45pm on Seven Sisters Road close to the junction with Elizabeth Road.

The IPCC was informed by the Metropolitan Police shortly after the collision occurred and declared an independent investigation. IPCC investigators went to the scene of the incident to begin gathering evidence. Both the in-car data recorder (IDR), which records the car’s speed and movements, and the in-car camera have been downloaded from the police van and will be analysed as part of the investigation. It has been established the vehicle was travelling with both its blue lights and siren activated at the time.

IPCC Operations Manager Neil Orbell said:

“My thoughts are with Mr Yalcin’s family and friends and all of those affected by this tragic event. We have spoken to Mr Yalcin’s family to offer our condolences and to tell them about our role and our investigation.

“We are looking for any CCTV in the area which may have captured the incident and we have conducted house to house enquiries to identify any witnesses. We have a number of witnesses who have already provided details and we will be speaking to them in the near future.

“If anyone else can assist us to establish what happened, for the benefit of all of those affected, please make contact with our investigators.”

Witnesses are asked to email sevensisters@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk(link sends e-mail) or to call us on 0800 096 9071
