IWF responds to Online Harms White Paper: Let’s do the right thing online for victims of child sexual abuse

The IWF, as part of the UK Safer Internet Centre, believes that this is an opportunity to demonstrate and to build on Britain’s already world-leading approach in tackling the spread of child sexual abuse images and videos online.

The IWF is globally renowned for its technical expertise in identifying and removing child sexual abuse images and videos from the internet. We take a partnership approach to combat the spread of this content online with the internet industry, law enforcement and governments around the world. We offer a suite of technical tools and services to the online industry which are used to prevent offenders from sharing the abuse of their victims online and to protect the public from accidentally stumbling across this abhorrent content.

The World Wide Web has been around 30 years, and for 23 of these we have been removing millions of child sexual abuse images and videos from the internet.

IWF CEO Susie Hargreaves OBE, said:

“We welcome the opportunity this consultation period affords, and we are looking forward to helping shape the future regulatory framework in the UK.

“It is of the utmost importance that the right thing is done for victims of child sexual abuse who deserve every opportunity to live in a world free from the circulation and reminder of the crimes committed against them.

“The world wide web is now 30 years old and we will bring our 23 years’ experience to help build a sustainable and safer online environment for the next 30 years and beyond.”
