International public protection events offer online safety information
A series of cyber safety events are taking place in the UK and in countries around the world.
Law enforcement and industry partners will be offering free advice to members of the public at locations ranging from a branch of Barclays bank in Middlesbrough, to Madrid’s Atocha train station, two of Italy’s busiest airports, and the Colombian capital, Bogota.
A short film highlighting key cyber crime risks to individuals, and the simple steps that can be taken to guard against them, has been developed by the NCA and Europol, and will be shown at a number of events.
In the UK, newly-implemented Cyber Protect officers within police Regional Organised Crime Units are carrying out a range of public protection activities in the coming weeks, supported by the NCA.
Tony Adams from the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit, said:
“These events will give people who might not otherwise have the time or inclination to seek out online safety advice the chance to get their questions answered, and an understanding of how to protect themselves from cyber crime.
“Along with our partners in law enforcement and industry, both in the UK and internationally, The NCA is working to make life more and more difficult for the criminals seeking to exploit the internet and its users.”
