Keeping Britain’s power flowing
Recently Ofgem published an animated video explaining how National Grid, the gas and electricity system operator, matches electricity being generated with customer demand.
As electricity can’t currently be stored in large amounts, National Grid has to make sure supply meets demand second by second. The video explains where Britain’s electricity comes from and the tools National Grid uses to balance the electricity system.
You can view an infographic explaining National Grid’s role and the Government’s Reliability Standard for electricity supplies on our Electricity security of supply page.
