Kent Police officer charged with assault

A Kent Police officer is due to appear in court charged with common assault following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation.

PC William Russell, 30, is due to appear at Hastings Magistrates Court on 25 September.

The charge relates to the detention of a man in police custody on 12 February 2019. It is alleged that PC Russell struck a man in the face on three occasions while the man was in handcuffs and had his head covered with a spit hood.
