Cllr Kevin Bentley, Chairman of the LGA’s Brexit Taskforce, said:

“Councils have a key role in working with partners locally on the resettlement scheme and are working closely with the Home Office on how best to raise awareness across all of our communities to encourage them to secure their status before the deadline.”

“However, there remains information, advice and resources gaps that councils are facing while helping their communities prepare, which need to be met by the Government. In particular, we are seeking greater clarity surrounding the roles and responsibilities of and funding for councils and local partners for people receiving care and support. Providing councils with regular and detailed breakdowns of outstanding applications will also assist in identifying pockets of where more targeted support may be needed.

”The LGA will continue to work with the Home Office and councils to identify and try and help resolve these national issues to ensure that councils and their communities are as prepared as they can be.”
