LGA responds to NAO report on Implementing Digital Change

Cllr Peter Fleming, Chair of the Local Government Association’s Improvement and Innovation Board responded to a National Audit Office report on ‘The challenges in implementing digital change’

“Although this report focuses on the role of central government, all public bodies are adapting to, and accelerating digital change.

“Over the last year councils in particular have been at the forefront of this change, with the pandemic driving a rapid digital expansion within local government to match the growing need to engage with and inform local people.

“In response to this, councils have seen the public’s expectations around digital engagement rise and technology evolve, with local authorities across the country rising to the challenge of implementing digital change at pace by working together to share innovative solutions.

“Councils share an ambition to keep improving local services through digital solutions. The Government should continue to fund, encourage and stimulate the potential held by local authorities to influence digital change across the UK as it builds back local and builds back better.”
