LGA responds to extension of booster vaccines to those aged 18-39 and second doses for 12 to 15 year olds

Cllr David Fothergill, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, responded to the JCVI announcement on offering a booster coronavirus vaccine to all adults aged 18 to 39 and for all 12-15 year olds to be offered a second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine

“Millions of people have already received their booster dose and this vaccine rollout extension will help bear down further on transmission and case rates, particularly amid concerns about the new Omicron variant.

“Vaccination is ultimately our route out of this pandemic and the COVID-19 booster and flu jab programmes are mission critical to keeping our population safe and healthy this winter.

“It is essential that we continue to take all necessary measures to protect ourselves and our loved ones, including adhering to the new temporary instructions on wearing face masks in shops and on public transport.

“Regular testing, getting your COVID-19 vaccine whether it be your first, second or booster dose and taking any other steps to reduce transmission, such as frequent handwashing and wearing face masks in crowded spaces, will also help to continue to minimise the spread and keep us on course for as close-to-normal Christmas as possible.”
