Let’s dance! Déda announces All Dance project to support disabled dancers

Supported by Arts Council England, Déda has been selected as the Creative Producer for a new project which will encourage disabled people to get more involved with dance.

Déda, the Derby-based dance company, has been selected as the Creative Producer for All Dance, a new project which will develop the talents of disabled people through dance.

Supported by Arts Council England and Arts Derbyshire, the project will take place over the next two years and is the latest stage of Derby’s All Dance programme, which was previously run across the UK, in 2012 and 2015.

The All Dance project will involve both dance and contemporary circus and will bring disabled people together with professional dancers culminating in a performance celebratory event in 2019.

Graduates and undergraduates of dance at the University of Derby will support the professional team and gain experience teaching and helping those who are new to dance.

The project reflects Arts Council England’s Creative Case for Diversity, which explores how organisations can enrich the work they do, by embracing a wide range of diverse influences and practices.

Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “Déda produce innovative and inclusive work that benefits people and communities in Derby and we’re delighted to be supporting their new All Dance project. Talent is everywhere, but opportunities are not, and it’ll be great to see them provide support for disabled people to get involved with dance and have the opportunity to showcase their talents to the nation.”
