Lord Ricketts Nominated as Vice-Chair of RUSI

Former National Security Advisor and UK Ambassador to France to be named Vice-Chair of the Royal United Services Institute.

RUSI is delighted to announce the nomination of Lord Peter Ricketts GCMG GCVO as its next Vice-Chair, effective from 15 July 2021. The Council of Trustees will recommend Lord Ricketts for the position of Vice-Chair at RUSI’s Annual General Meeting, to coincide with the end of the five-year term of the current Vice-Chair, Sir John Scarlett.

Lord Ricketts spent 40 years as a British diplomat before retiring in 2016. In addition to becoming the UK's first National Security Advisor, Lord Ricketts was Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and UK Ambassador to France. He currently serves as a trustee at RUSI.

Dr Karin von Hippel, Director-General of RUSI, recently remarked:

“We are delighted to welcome Lord Ricketts as our next Vice-Chair. He will help us build on the outstanding work of Sir John over the last five years.”

Sir David Lidington, RUSI’s Chair, recently commented:

“I am excited to work with Lord Ricketts, the Council of Trustees and RUSI’s leadership to ensure the continued success of the Institute. Peter brings a strong record of diplomacy, numerous international contacts, and intellectual rigour to the position.”

Lord Ricketts added:

“RUSI is a vitally important national institution, and is at the cutting edge of thinking about the future of national security. I am honoured to assume the position of Vice-Chair, and look forward to working with the Chair, Trustees and RUSI’s staff to ensure its continued success as the UK’s leading think tank.”

Established in 1831 by the Duke of Wellington, RUSI is an independent think tank, focused on a range of defence, security and geopolitical issues.
