The debate will be led by Petitions Committee member Jonathan Gullis MP. MPs from all parties can take part, and a Minister from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will respond on behalf of the Government.

This debate has been scheduled in response to a petition calling for football fans to be allowed to attend matches at all levels

To inform the debate, Jonathan Gullis held a virtual ‘roundtable’ meeting with: petition creator Ashley Greenwood; Rick Parry, Chairman of the English Football League; and representatives of two clubs in Mr Gullis’s constituency – Port Vale and Stoke City. The Committee also surveyed petitioners to get their thoughts on why fans should be allowed to attend matches again, receiving more than 11,000 responses.

The debate will last 90 minutes, and will take place in Westminster Hall – the House of Commons second Chamber.

What are petitions debates?

Petitions debates are 'general' debates which allow MPs from all parties to discuss the important issues raised by one or more petitions, and put their concerns to Government Ministers.
