Manchester City Council adds Mi Ventures’ online business advice to existing business support services
Manchester City Council has added an online advice and networking solution to existing business start-up and business support services. Working with Mi Ventures, the Council wants to make sure that all residents and businesses can access support to suit their circumstances.
The council already has partners delivering a wide range of excellent services to help Manchester residents start their own business and to support existing businesses to grow. However, these services are not open to all; besides, some people may prefer online over face to face support, whereas others prefer not to travel or just want to access services from their home or place of work at a time that suits them best.
Alongside providing direct advice, Mi Ventures’ experienced advisors signpost users to local services and events delivered by the council, library and partner organisations such as the Business Growth Hub, PeoplePlus, Prince’s Trust and social housing providers. The service also enables people and businesses to network with each other. Either by joining existing virtual networks (around topics like social media or sales) or by creating their own networks e.g. people on business start-up programmes or traders associations who want to be able to talk virtually in between workshops and meetings.
The service can also be used by voluntary and community organisations especially when they are thinking about setting up a trading arm. Also, schools may find the wealth of information and resources useful for their enterprise education activities.
Greg Thomas, Director, Mi Ventures added: “Our service is designed so that people and businesses get the best possible support when they need it. That means that our advisors must not only be fully qualified to give direct advice but also need to be able to signpost to other services. Our partnership arrangement with Companies House and HMRC means that we can provide their key documentation directly to our clients, saving them time searching and downloading these themselves.”
