Met police officer in court on death by careless driving charge

A Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer will appear in court to face a charge of causing death by careless driving, after an incident in East London.

This follows an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation into a July 2020 road traffic incident in East Ham, where a police van collided with an 83-year-old man.

The man sadly later died in hospital.

Police Constable (PC) Daniel Bowen, aged 28, based at Stratford Police Station, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 22 April).

Our investigation was completed within six months and we provided a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) which then made the decision to charge PC Bowen.
