Minister confirms appointments to the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales

Minister for Housing and Local Government, Julie James, yesterday announced three appointments to the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales. 

The Panel is responsible for determining the level of remuneration for elected members of councils, national park authorities and fire and rescue authorities in Wales.

The three appointments are as follows:

  • John Bader is appointed as Chair. John is the current Chair of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales, with his current term of office due to end on 31 December. John will serve a further term of two years as Chair to commence on 1 January 2020.
  • Claire Sharp is appointed to the Panel as Member for a four year term to commence on 1 January 2020.
  • Joe Stockley is appointed to the Panel as Member for a four year term to commence on 1 June 2020. 

Members of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales are paid a daily rate of £337 (Chair) and £282 (Member), each reflecting a minimum time commitment of 12 days per year. 

Minister for Housing and Local Government Julie James yesterday said:

I am pleased to announce these appointments today. John has agreed to continue in the role of Chair to the Panel, maintaining his leadership role in this important area of work.

I am delighted the Panel will be joined by Claire and Joe who between them have a range of skills that will prove valuable to the work of the Panel.
