NAO responds to the publication of the Redmond Review

Responding to the publication of the Redmond Review into the Oversight of Local Audit and the Transparency of Local Authority Financial Reporting, Gareth Davies, head of the NAO, said:

“Robust local audit is vital to ensuring there is accountability in how public money is spent. The concerns raised by the Redmond Review about the fragmentation and sustainability of local audit arrangements are concerns that we also hold.

“We welcome the Review’s findings and support its aim to strengthen the local government audit regime in England. We are committed to working with government and other bodies to tackle the issues that Sir Tony has identified and to deliver a sustainable and effective local audit regime.”
