NCSC director scoops prestigious Civil Service Digital Award
The National Cyber Security Centre's Alison Whitney was handed the Digital Award at the Civil Service awards recently.
Alison Whitney, the National Cyber Security Centre’s Director for Engagement, won the Digital Award at last night’s Civil Service Awards.
The annual awards were held at Lancaster House and recognise as well as celebrate the wealth of inspirational individuals and innovative projects within the Civil Service.
Alison received the Digital Award, which recognised excellence in the application of digital technology to solve a problem or make things better.
Alison’s work in establishing the National Cyber Security Centre was praised as “visionary” at the awards, and she was commended for her part in setting up the NCSC’s first unclassified floorspace in Gloucestershire, in partnership with GCHQ, to create a more accessible cyber security function.
She was also praised for her continuing engagement with the public sector to help organisations understand and mitigate their cyber security risks.
Speaking afterwards, Alison said:
“Getting cyber security right in the public sector is the first step to making the UK the safest place to live and work online. This award recognises that, and shows the positive impact that the NCSC has made since it was established.
“It was an inspirational evening, and it was fascinating to see some of the projects and initiatives being undertaken across the Civil Service – all of the nominees were worthy of winning an award.”
