NEPO appoints Simon Hanson in economic development role

NEPO has appointed Simon Hanson in the role of Economic Development & Policy Manager.

Simon was previously North East Development Manager at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). For over twelve years he has supported smaller businesses through advice and support, and by influencing the government agenda.

Nicola Shelley, Managing Director at NEPO yesterday said:

“We know the vital role that procurement plays in delivering economic growth across the North East. NEPO and its twelve Member Authorities already ensure that £2bn of procurement spending is delivered by the region’s businesses. This helps to deliver prosperity in our local communities, which in turn helps sustain thousands of jobs. Our work will help to deliver a sustainable and resilient recovery right across the region. With our ambitious plans, we are delighted that Simon will bring his wealth of experience to help us shape and deliver this.”

Simon Hanson added:

“There’s no doubting that COVID-19 has had a massive economic impact on the North East economy. Ensuring that the region’s business and VCSE community has access to future procurement opportunities will help drive the recovery of the economy and deliver the levelling up agenda. I look forward to working with colleagues across the public sector to build on the fantastic work that is already being done to achieve this. From helping local suppliers develop competitive skills through NEPO Business Club, to influencing post-EU procurement regulations, we will work in collaboration to drive growth.”
