NHS Confederation welcomes CQC strategy consultation

Danny Mortimer, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, responded to the launch of the CQC’s strategy consultation

“We welcome the launch of the CQC’s Strategy Consultation. The COVID-19 pandemic has been perhaps the worst crisis in NHS history, but the last year has also demonstrated what can be achieved when local leaders lead, and our members are keen to maintain a system of regulation that is proportionate, intelligent and supports lean, light, and agile ways of working.

“We have welcomed the CQC’s willingness to engage with our members and we look forward to working with it in the coming weeks. The CQC deserves credit for its desire to hear from health leaders and others on how regulation can be improved for everyone.

“It’s critical we now work together with all regulators to recalibrate their approach, reduce duplication, and develop an intelligence-led inspection regime. The health and social care landscape is rapidly changing; we must seize the moment to reset the NHS.”
