New Directors of Communications appointments for BEIS and DIT

Abigail Morris has been appointed as the Director of Communications for the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), where she has been the interim director since August. With a background in public affairs across private, public and not for profit sectors, Abigail brings with her a wealth of experience, great leadership and passion for everything BEIS stands for which will be crucial as the country tries to rebuild its economy.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) has appointed Jon Tunney as the Director of Communications, where he has been interim director at DIT since May. He has provided empathetic and energetic leadership to the team following a period of immense change, while transforming the relationship with the political team at DIT, and leading the department through the Australia trade agreement.

Both are key leadership roles within the Government Communication Service.

Simon Baugh, Chief Executive for the Government Communication Service, yesterday said:

“I’m delighted that Jon and Abigail will take up their roles permanently within the Government Communications Service (GCS) community, and I am looking forward to working with them. The blend of experience and expertise they bring will be invaluable in supporting GCS to go from strength to strength, and ensure it continues to deliver for citizens.”

Abigail Morris Director of Communications for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) yesterday said:

Jon Tunney, Director of Communications at Department for International Trade (DIT) yesterday said:

“I am absolutely thrilled at being appointed to such a brilliant job. DIT is defining what it means for the UK to be an independent trading nation for the first time in 40 years and it’s great to be at the heart of it.

“I’m delighted to be leading the hard working, creative and all-round amazing comms team at DIT. And, after two years away, I couldn’t be happier about being back home at the Government Communications Service.”
