New HMO planning rules for landlords in Birmingham

Landlords in Birmingham who want to convert a property into a HMO will now have to apply for planning permission to do so.

The new Article 4 direction came into force on Monday 8th June and the existing Article 4 Direction covering the areas of Selly Oak, Harborne and Edgbaston was also rovoked on this date.

Last year, Birmingham City Council ran a six week consultation on the plans, which the RLA responded to. You can read the NRLA’s response here and read more about the new scheme on Birmingham City Council’s website here.

Midlands regional webinar

To support members during the pandemic, the NRLA is hosting a series of regional webinars. The next Midlands regional webinar will take place on Tuesday 16th June at 2pm. It is a chance for landlords to meet new NRLA Chair Jodi Berg OBE, and Chief Executive Ben Beadle and here about our campaigning. Sign up here.
