New Reform Public Spending Site

We're delighted to have launched a new micro site for our new Reform Public Spending programme.

Excellent public services, and sound public finances, are the bedrock of a strong, inclusive society and a dynamic economy. Decisions made about public spending priorities affect everyone – from healthcare to education, security to welfare, public services shape people’s lives.

Next year, the government will spend almost £879 billion, nearly 39% of GDP. It will do so in the face of mounting pressures – from an ageing society to increasing automation, stagnating social mobility to sluggish productivity – and in the midst of a global economic slowdown. It is vital that every pound of taxpayers’ money is spent to greatest effect.

This programme of work looks ahead to the 2020 Comprehensive Spending Review to identify better ways to spend, and in some cases raise, public monies. It is built upon the belief that spending decisions should be evidence-led, outcomes-focused and value for money.
