Number of volunteers offering to participate in UK COVID-19 vaccine studies shown in new NHS Digital dashboard

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccine Studies Volunteers Dashboard shows the number of volunteers in the UK who are offering to be contacted for possible recruitment into approved trials to find an effective vaccine for the virus.

The registry dashboard provides an anonymous count of volunteers across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and can be broken down by region1 and local authority area2 and by age and gender.

The NHS COVID-19 vaccine research registry enables people across the UK to sign up to participate in COVID-19 vaccine trials.

The service was commissioned by the UK Government’s Vaccine Taskforce in partnership with NHS Digital, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the Northern Ireland, Scottish and Welsh Governments.

This dashboard shows the number of people who have signed up for the coronavirus vaccine studies volunteer service across the United Kingdom3, where they have given permission to be contacted for a vaccine study and have completed the verification process.

The information is updated daily.

Notes for editors

  1. English regions have been derived from the Local Authority, for other UK nations these are shown as the individual countries.
  2. Local Authority has been derived from the volunteer's postcode. Data where the local authority or region could not be derived is not shown in the map or table but is included in the total UK counts.
  3. To protect patient confidentiality, no visual is displayed for sub-national breakdowns where a value is between 1 and 7 from the data presented. All other sub-national level data has been rounded to the nearest 5. When calculating percentages at a sub-national breakdown, a percentage or rate is calculated using the rounded numerator and denominator where the rounded numerator and denominator are greater than 5. Percentages will only be displayed where the rounded denominator is greater than or equal to 400. Therefore, regional and local authority counts will not sum to the UK figure.
