Ofcom Chairman to retire at the end of year

Ofcom has today announced that Dame Patricia Hodgson, Ofcom’s Chairman, is to retire from the role at the end of 2017.

Dame Patricia was asked to extend her three-year term for one year through to March 2018.

This was to oversee Ofcom taking on regulation of the BBC, as well as implementation of the review of digital communications, both of which will be embedded by the end of year.

Dame Patricia will serve nine months of the extension, which will allow for a new Chairman to be involved in other Board appointments due next year.

Dame Patricia said: “My time at Ofcom has been among the most rewarding in my career during such an important period for the UK communications sector.

“I am pleased that, by the time I retire, Ofcom will be established as regulator of the BBC and will have progressed plans to improve telecoms services through its digital communications review.”
