Theresa May spoke with Chancellor Merkel and President Juncker of the European Commission following the High Court judgement on Article 50.

A Downing Street spokesperson said:

This morning the Prime Minister called both the German Chancellor and the President of the European Commission to update them following yesterday’s judgment in the High Court.

The PM explained to both Chancellor Merkel and President Juncker that while the government was disappointed with the judgment, it had strong legal arguments ahead of the case moving to the Supreme Court.

The PM also confirmed that the government’s planned timetable for notification of Article 50 remains unchanged.

Both Chancellor Merkel and President Juncker thanked the Prime Minister for the update.

Later today the PM expects to speak to both President Hollande and the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
