Providing more than bricks and mortar: social landlords and Housing First

As local authorities and their partners prepare bids for the Next Steps fund, Homeless Link is pleased to publish our scoping research into the experiences of social housing providers in the delivery of Housing First.
This short report outlines our key findings from a series of interviews with landlords and Housing First support teams. It offers an insight into how landlords are involved in Housing First delivery including some of the nuts and bolts of their work to provide and support the sustainment of tenancies.
The briefing highlights the benefits of strong partnership working between landlords and support providers, and the culture change and flexibility that has been adopted by landlords as they commit to the ethos of Housing First provision.
This commitment by the social housing sector was seen in our recent campaign to scale up Housing First. With over 25 stakeholders signed up, including sector bodies like the National Housing Federation and Chartered Institute of Housing, it is evident that there is both a local and national commitment to provide housing to those with complex needs who have often be deemed ineligible.
The report also includes a summary of applying Specified Accommodation Status to Housing First and the implications of doing so for high fidelity provision.
