Public event to show plans to improve A55/A470 Junction 19 Glan Conwy Interchange
People are being invited to share their opinion on plans to improve safety and journey times at the Glan Conwy Interchange Roundabout off Junction 19 of the A55, Transport Minister Ken Skates has announced.
A Public Information and Consultation Event will take place at Conwy Business Centre in Llandudno Junction on 13 September between 9.30am-8pm where members of the public, motorists, businesses and residents can see and give their views on the option under consideration.
The proposal would see the introduction of traffic signal controls on part of the roundabout, plus “spiral” lane markings to guide motorists around the roundabout and to the exits. There would also be provision of an Active Travel route across the interchange from the Glan Conwy direction to join with existing link at Narrow Lane in Llandudno Junction.
As well as enhancing safety in the area and improving journey times, this option aims to provide better access to local services and employment by connecting communities. Improving air quality and reducing noise pollution also form part of the scheme’s objectives.
The proposal for the A55/A470 Glan Conwy Interchange Roundabout is part of the Welsh Government’s pinch-point programme which targets key bottlenecks on the trunk road network. Possible improvements are then investigated to look at addressing issues such as traffic congestion and road safety issues.
More information on the proposal, as well as consultation response details, can be found at the Public Information and Consultation Event.
Transport Minister Ken Skates said:
Ensuring our trunk road system is running smoothly in a safe environment is absolutely essential for the integrity of our network.
There is little doubt this is a very busy interchange off the A55 and the option under consideration aims to improve the current situation, making it safer and more reliable for those who use it.
We have major plans for transport in North Wales over the coming years and this is part of those proposals.
I would encourage everyone with an interest to go along to the Conwy Business Centre on September 13 to take a more detailed look and let us know their thoughts on what we are considering.
